The Use of Dynamic Mathematics Software and Interactive Whiteboard Technology in Mathematics Teaching

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine preservice mathematics teachers’ opinions regarding the use of a dynamic software and interactive whiteboard technology in mathematics teaching. The research was conducted with 34 preservice teachers who were studying on secondary mathematics teaching program of a state university in Turkey. Case study, which is among the qualitative research approaches, was used in the research. “Semi-structured interview technique” and “opinion form” were used as data collection tools. Content analysis was used in analyzing the obtained qualitative data. At the end of the study, preservice teachers emphasized that dynamic mathematics software and interactive whiteboard technology contributed to giving courses via visualization and allowed for learning topics in an interesting learning environment. Furthermore, it was stated that dynamic mathematics software and interactive whiteboard technology must be used in mathematics teaching due to their advantages, such as the fact that their collective use contributes to the concretization of the subjects, increases retention, facilitates understanding concepts and saves time.
