Investigation of Freshman Teacher Candidates’ Attitude towards Mathematics by Some Variables

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the attitudes of the elementary and junior high school teacher candidates’ towards mathematics according to some variables. The data of this study, were obtained by 200 elementary and junior high school teacher candidates’ from Inonu Universty, Faculty of Education in 2010-2011 education terms. Data was collected by “Attitude Towards Mathematics Scale” developed by Duatepe and Çilesiz (1999). The reliability level of the scale is 0,943 and this level is high for that research. Analysis of the data, percentage, frequency, mean, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis Test was used. The data obtained show that attitude levels in mathematics of girls is higher than boys ; attitude levels in mathematics of primary mathematics education students are higher than computer education, science and technology education and primary school education students.
