An Investigation of Discussions Regarding Mathematics and Mathematics Education in Web Based Discussion Forums
Main Article Content
Abstract
Mathematical discussion is an essential part of mathematics and mathematics education. Discussing a mathematical topic from different points of view enhances understanding and criticizing mathematical realities. In view of this advantages, promoting discussion environments via various technologies gains importance. In studies regarding discussion on mathematics, many aspects of mathematics and mathematics education were taken into account (Anderson, 2004; Dawson, 2006; Kearsley, 2000; Kramarski ve Mizrachi 2004; Lee, Vogel, ve Limayem, 2003; Lopez, 2006; Matson, 2010; Moroni, Smestad, ve Kinshuk, 2006; Offenholley, 2006; Sliva, 2002). Among these, some studies emphasize on philosophical, analytical and pedagogical aspects of mathematical discussion and talks (Matson, 2010; Offenholley, 2006) and some others stress upon advantages, disadvantages and effects of discussion environments in the view of mathematical reasoning (Anderson, 2004; Kearsley, 2000; Lee, Vogel, ve Limayem, 2003; Lopez, 2006; Sliva, 2002).
